President Obama and Savannah Guthrie were both standing up.

At the start of the live 6-minute interview, at 4:36pmET, Obama showed off the White House beer:  “First president since George Washington to make some booze in the White House,”“First president since George Washington to make some booze in the White House,”Obama boasted. After a couple questions about football — predictions and deflate gate — Guthrie asked Obama about his state of mind during the State of the Union. “Some say a little cocky,” said Guthrie. “Your party lost in November but you went in there with such swagger. Should you have been more conciliatory?”

“Nobody was doing an end zone dance,” said the president. “We were talking about the success America’s had and digging itself out of a really terrible recession.” After a few more questions, including another football metaphor, about this being “the fourth quarter” of his presidency, Obama and Guthrie got to drinking.

“This is the honey ale made from honey from Michelle’s garden,” Obama said as he and Guthrie raised a glass.

There’ll be a longer interview on “Today” Monday.

All modern two term presidents have an opposing congress in their 7th & 8th years: “Your party lost in November but you went in there with such swagger. Should you have been more conciliatory?” Here drink this! “This is the honey ale made from honey from Michelle’s garden,” Constitutional scholar Obama J.D. said, as he and Atty Guthrie raised a glass. There’ll be a lapdance on “Today” Monday.
