Open Carry Group Denies Double Murder Suspect Was A Member, But She Was (Images)

Open Carry Tarrant County and Open Carry Texas, are both trying desperately to distance themselves from their member, Veronica Dunnachie, 35, who was arrested after fatally shooting her husband and stepdaughter.

Open Carry Tarrant County’s leader Kory Watkins is denying any affiliation with Dunnachie. Watkins told Guns.com that Dunnachie “was not a member of the group.”

Oh look, here’s Kory with the double murder suspect:

Here is his organization on Facebook calling her “One of our members.”

Both groups are scrubbing pictures of the double homicide suspect from their Facebook pages.

Following the shooting, she drove herself to a mental hospital after calling an Open Carry supporter to confess her murders.

But, he did not call the police as Open Carry Texas suggests in a Facebook post.

He told her to go to the mental hospital, which she did.  A friend of his called the cops.

The Star Telegram reports that a friend of Veronica Dunnachie’s, Guy Potter, told detectives that she sounded upset when she called and said she had done something bad, according to the affidavit.

Potter tried to reassure Veronica Dunnachie, but she said “she couldn’t be helped this time as she had just shot her husband,” according to the affidavit.

Potter asked about Russ Dunnachie’s daughter, and Veronica Dunnachie said “she had shot her too,” the affidavit says.

Potter advised Dunnachie to go to Millwood Hospital, a mental-health facility in Arlington.

Instead of alerting police, Potter called another friend, Steven Marshall, who did call the authorities.

That’s totally what you’re not supposed to do. Obviously, Steven Marshall knew that, but Guy Potter was unaware that murder is a very serious crime.

As for her affiliation with Open Carry Texas, C.J. Grisham, the group’s leader, says she was a member for only three months, and once again, he’s distanced himself from Open Carry Tarrant County.

The two groups had a girl fight, but it does appear Open Carry Texas members and Dunnachie were still pals.

She spent Thanksgiving at one of their member’s houses. She was at another member’s apartment just a week before killing her family members.

They were hanging out. So, the group claiming to be “law abiding citizens” doesn’t pan out if one of them shoots her family members dead.

Also, I’m pretty sure it’s a crime to not report a double murder to the police. Directing a person who has just fatally shot two people to a mental health facility where she could possibly do more damage — the gun has not been recovered — is exactly what a law abiding person should not do.

This was Open Carry Tarrant County’s tweet the day after one of their members killed two innocent people.

Big thanks to CoCo, who helped me gather the screen shots while my computer was having a meltdown. You can follow her on Twitter here.

Yup, the brave open carry crowd runs from a troubled member at the first opportunity.

This could go very badly for Veronica’s friend Gus Potter if it is shown that his failure to promptly report the event to authorities is in any way contributory to the death of either victim– i.e., if either could have been saved by EMTs if he’d called 911 at once instead of dicking around with giving bad advice to Veronica (I wonder– did he tell her to be sure to ditch the weapon?) or calling a friend to ask them to call 911 for him (honestly– who the fuck does that?).

Sane people do NOT march around wearing guns and rifles like some demented redneck bling, I don’t care what anybody says, you can’t convince me that a single one of the OC nutbags is sane and rational and not a danger.

And YES, I am painting them all with the same brush, I would do the same with those groups that think they are real vampires…crazy is the glue that binds some groups together and open carry is one of those groups!

so true. and how will they explain that guns kept the husband and daughter safe, didn’t they have their own? looks like they all should be carrying their guns on their hips indoors as well. much like a cell phone.
