Limbaugh Defends Cosby, Blames CNN

Posted by | November 18, 2014 16:00 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

Bill Cosby, who has been largely universally admired until a pile of rape allegations surfaced, has been defended by conservative and vilified by liberals, in an odd left-right divide that should have nothing to do with the story. Rush Limbaugh accused CNN of trying to “destroy” Cosby.

“Bill Cosby has numerous times in the recent past given public lectures in which he has said to one degree or another that black families and communities had better step up and get hold of themselves and not fall prey to the forces of destruction that rip them apart. And basically he started demanding that people start accepting responsibility. And the next thing you know he is the nation’s biggest rapist as far as CNN is concerned.”…

But, it is not as though Cosby’s politics have factored into any of CNN’s coverage of the rape allegations. And, as I pointed out previously, Don Lemon, who has been the CNN host leading much of the Cosby coverage has expressed similar sentiments to Cosby about personal responsibility in the African-American community…

In the end, Cosby’s personal politics have nothing to do with the question of whether he drugged and raped more than a dozen women over the last 45 years. The media should recognize that fact and keep his political views out of the conversation.

rush is defending a black man? Oh, that’s right, it’s because a woman is accusing him of rape, so I guess in rush’s “food chain” woman are at the bottom below black men.

They are at the bottom of most food chains all around the world. Always have been. Probably always will be. I think it was Yoko Ono and John Lennon who did a song called “Women are the Ni**ers of the World”. The only other group in the running would be gay people.

yet without us, none of them would be here.

That is something they should think about once in awhile. Men are almost superfluous–it only takes one rooster.

that’s what i don’t get about women followers of pat and the like (including politicians). they degrade them right in front of their faces and yet, they say nothing. damn.

What is this tendency for right wingers to support rape? They are barbarians.

    • M D Reese November 18th, 2014 at 16:52

Exactly. Even GOPTP women support it. I don’t get it. I guess they think only “bad” women get raped?

There is also a libertarian streak that says people of a certain social class and wealth should never be questioned about their behavior by the lowly plebeians.

My issue with CNN’s coverage of the story is that they keep using it as a ratings draw every hour even though there are no new facts to report. I don’t think it is an intentional smear campaign. They are simply using a celebrity’s problems to drum up ratings but it has the effect making the story seem fresh when in fact they are repeating the same facts day after day, hour after hour. I tend to believe there is some merit to the story because of the out of court settlement Mr. Cosby reached a few years ago with a victim, however I also think that a case like this where there can be no day in court (because of statute of limitations) needs to be handled in a far less sensationalist manner by the media.

That’s their business plan, has been for years. A CNN “update” is simply a repeat of the last “update.”

    • Julia Mercado November 18th, 2014 at 20:21

I so agree. But now the poor man has been ‘defended’ by Rush which will really taint him in a bad light. There will always be people seeking their 15 minutes and celebrity stalkers are no exception.

If you have rush defending you , you must seriously consider that you may be in the wrong.

        Bingo~!
        It’s all about ratings…
Same goes with all 3 24-hour ‘news’ channels…

This is to keep our minds off the Keystone Pipeline vote and the grand jury in Ferguson.

After all, it only one mid term election win for the republicans to cure Ebola.

There should be an expiration date on celebrities…or at least a competency test…
(Have heard that the Cos needs handlers as of late. True? Dunno.)

Cosby is stuck between a rock and a hard place. As a public figure, he can’t do much legal wise to combat the claims. He can’t say much as every word will be twisted, distorted, and exaggerated by certain elements in the media.
He did right keeping his mouth shut, but many then assume he’s guilty already.

    • whatthe46 November 19th, 2014 at 00:38

damned if he did and damned that he didn’t. if he had said i deny the charges, people will assume he’s lying, so what would be the point of saying anything. with all these accusations, the next headline will be, “was he a serial rapist?” wow.
