Republicans Threatening Short-Term Funding Bills Implying Government Shutdown
Forgetting that their tactics didn’t work last time, Republicans are considering short-term funding bills with the implied threat that at any time the government should be shut down when they expire.
Click here for reuse options!Instead of passing a spending bill in the coming days that would fund the government through the end of the fiscal year, Republicans are considering a short-term measure that would expire early next year, according to more than a dozen top lawmakers and their aides who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
When Congress reconvenes in the new year, Republicans would then pass other short-term bills, each designed to create a forum to push back against the president and, possibly, gain concessions. Republicans also are planning to file a lawsuit against the president over his use of executive authority, according to the lawmakers and aides…
By promising not to shut down the government, the GOP may be undercutting the strategy behind the use of short-term bills. The main leverage behind such maneuvers is the possibility of a shutdown. Removing that possibility could give Democrats little incentive to make a deal.

Oh what else is new! I hope that the GOPTPers shut down the government, “repeal” Obamacare another 40-50 times, outlaw abortion and birthcontrol and of course pass a “personhood” amendment. Apparently we have not hit bottom yet.

They’ll also threaten to default on the debt, thus throwing the economy into a full-scale depression. Same old GOP tricks.

Yup–I missed the first Great Depression–but it looks like I might get to see the second one. And not even 100 years apart. We are outdoing ourselves, stupid-wise.

Ed Schultz said he thinks the repubs might attach a Keystone pipeline approval to every bill so that Obama will have to veto every bill that reaches his desk. When I heard that, I thought we might be going to an even worse place than we where with the previous congress, just when we thought it can’t get worse….
