TSA Confiscates Toy Ray Gun Belt Buckle

Sean Malone says his toy ray gun belt buckle was confiscated at LAX.

Malone posted a picture of the offending toy on Instagram and described it on his blog as a “1950s Flash Gordon-style RAYGUN!! A fictional weapon. A child’s toy.”

“I lost my favorite belt buckle to the TSA at Los Angeles International Airport, because – they claimed – it was a ‘replica’ of a gun,” wrote Malone.

Malone told Reason.com via email that he was first questioned about the belt buckle by a TSA official in the Philadelphia airport.

“Yeah, there’s something in there that’s kind of shaped like a gun,” said the TSA agent, claims Malone.

“Listen, you can either go back out of security and put this in your check luggage, or we’ll confiscate it,” added the TSA agent.

Malone told the TSA agent that the belt buckle was a toy, but she replied, “What if you take this object out of your bag and point it, like a gun, at a police officer? He would have no choice to assume that it was a gun, and take action against you.”

The toy gun belt buckle was approved by a supervisor in Philly but was taken away from Malone in Los Angeles.

“Jerk” is a derogatory term often used in comments when someone is offending another person commenting. “Buttwipe”, not so often used.

        • whatthe46 October 30th, 2014 at 22:58

          • tracey marie October 30th, 2014 at 23:05

Most they do, if they do not steal it. Some things they donate as well. Most disappears

            • whatthe46 October 31st, 2014 at 02:03

they shouldn’t. they should place it in a “lost and found” if you will so that they can be reclaimed when they return. that’s just wrong.

I imagine seeing a TSA agent sitting at home, in his underwear, among the treasures he’s hoarded from confiscation. All those shampoo bottles, nail clippers, matches, and toy raygun belt buckles. “They’re all mine… mine I tell you!!!”

          • tracey marie October 31st, 2014 at 14:15

lol, that is funny and not far fetched

As silly and stupid as this is. One should know by now not to take anything through TSA that you want to have any chance of somebody being an idiot and confiscating…

    • Obewon October 30th, 2014 at 23:34

Well regulated means ‘Put this GUN in your check luggage, or we’ll confiscate it,’ added the TSA agent. “What if you take this object out of your bag and point it, like a gun, at a police officer?” BOOM!!! Depressurizing at 30,000 feet is a lot worse than Ebola infected voting machines!

      • Pistol-Packing AKA "Susie" October 31st, 2014 at 08:41

Ahhhhhhh Just think of the depressurization as similar to a nantucket Sleigh Ride …..

        WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

atagirl- capitulate capitulate until you’re nothing but a number to be shuffled and only mutter “yes sir”. when you give in to other peoples fear, you lose.

As true as this all sounds, lets take a step back and look at reality for the moment. If your going to test the waters, and push the envelope to make a point. Then I would advise you dont do it with a prized possession.

Now wouldn’t this same fear be equal to that of what the MOMS demand about open carry ?? You can make the correlation if you equate the two.
