…federal courts have gone against the will of voters and eroded the state’s power… Brewer said. Because civil right’s are immune to the majority vote – its kind of the whole point.

Indeed, that is indeed the point.
Change always seems to take too long and sometimes we get discouraged, but we on the Left should take heart and look at the wider view of our history.
Our history has been a steady parade of improvement since we fought the Revolution and secured our rights. Since then weon the Left have expanded them in spite of conservative opposition. Abolition, women’s suffrage, civil rights, women’s liberation and gay rights – in all these change took a long time but in all of them we on the Left ultimately prevailed.
We should not forget the way we have pushed the battle of progress and how we always win in the end. From time to time we may remind conservatives that on these issues their record is one of continual defeat. All they can do is delay it, but eventually they will lose.

      YAAAAAAY ARIZONA!

I always find it disheartening when an elected official either panders to the lowest base or allows their (almost always religious) personal bias to take a position counter to law/constitution. Part of representing your constituents is a responsibility to educate them and provide alternative options or resources.
Feeding the frenzy of the desperate, just fuels the bad behavior of those in opposition. This is a civil rights issue, it won’t change. A responsible elected official would do what they can to minimize the strife and encourage inclusiveness.

Jan Brewer is upset because she knows no discerning lesbian would want her.

My friend and neighbor, the Republican, was badmouthing gay marriage. I pointed out to him that three of our neighbors are in gay relationships, which shocked him completely. Two of these neighbors he was friendly with. A few weeks later, he said to me, “Maybe being in a gay marriage isn’t such a bad thing after all.” Like with racism, most of the ones making the biggest and loudest objections have no (or at least that they are not aware of) relations withe gay people.
