Jury Finds Michael Dunn Guilty Of First-Degree Murder In Killing Of Jordan Davis

On Wednesday, Michael Dunn, a Florida resident, was found guilty of first-degree murder for the killing of 17-year-old Jordan Davis in September of 2012 after an argument over loud music, a case which garnered national attention.

It only took the jury about 5 hours to reach a verdict. In contrast, a jury was deadlocked in February as to whether to convict Dunn.

The Huffington Post reports:

He was convicted on three counts of attempted murder for shooting at Davis’ friends in the car.

Dunn testified at this month’s trial as well as his last that he killed Davis in self-defense after the teen threatened him. He also said he thought Davis had a gun, but no weapon was ever found.

At a press conference after the verdict was read, Davis’ father, Ron, told reporters, “We must do a better job of loving each other.”

In an argument over loud music, Dunn fired 10 times into an SUV carrying 17-year-old Jordan Davis and three of his friends. Later, Dunn alleged that he felt his life as in danger. The case was compared to the Trayvon Martin shooting in that Dunn tried to use a Stand Your Ground-type defense, even though his life was never in danger, unless music kills.

I’m happy to see that the world’s angriest music critic, Michael Dunn, got his deserved judgment today. He lives in a town just south of me, in the same county, and worked as a software engineer. Sounded to me like all the makings of white entitlement. After he got nailed for 60 years on the other 3 charges, he got on the phone with his then-fiancĂ© (she has since broken off the engagement) and told her that he was the real victim here, not the kid he murdered. That was reported in Florida Today, the local paper (also known as “that filthy Commie liberal rag” by conservatives in this county, although it is quite fair in its reporting). As a self-descibed victim, I gathered that Mr. Dunn is a conservative, too, that his motives for emptying his gun into the car became clearer and his vivid imagination of the teen having a gun justified his actions, although only death staring him in the face could ever give reason for shooting someone else. Good luck in prison, Dunn, you’re going to be doing some long, hard time that software engineers seldom do.

I’ve noticed in Florida Today that, just like the local populace did with Travon Martin, letter writers on the Opinion page have demonized Jordan Davis for playing his music too loud when Dunn drove up. It was Davis’ fault, the letters said, with his utter lack of manners – as if that could be any sensible reason to kill someone.

This second trial should never have occurred in the first place had Angela Corey (state prosecutor) had done her job in February but I’m very glad Dunn was finally convicted. Let him rot in prison for LIFE…

As a 2nd amendment activist, I say GOOD! He should fry.

However, this should be corrected: “The case was compared to the Trayvon Martin shooting in that Dunn tried to use a Stand Your Ground-type defense.”

Zimmerman never used the Stand Your Ground Defense, rejecting it as not applicable.
He used a standard self defense argument. He could not use SYG as he was flat on his back. He could not have retreated if he wanted to.
