Prosecutor To Drop All Seattle Marijuana Tickets

Seattle will drop all marijuana tickets issued through the first seven months of 2014, says the city’s prosecutor. They were almost all issued by one officer who disagrees with legalization.

In a briefing to the City Council on Monday, City Attorney Pete Holmes says he is moving to dismiss approximately 100 tickets issued by the Seattle Police Department between Jan. 1 and July 31. His office also said it would be seeking a refund for 22 people who have already paid their $27 ticket.

Through the first six months of the year, a single officer wrote about 80 percent of the tickets, writing on one that he considered the pot law “silly.” The officer was temporarily reassigned, and the department’s Office of Professional Accountability is investigating.

Encouraging to see a City or States Attorney ANYWHERE “Step Up” when a Cop Decides that HE will be the Ultimate Arbiter of how a Law should be Interpreted ……. Sadly, TOO RARE an Occurrence in Our “Criminal Injustice System”, wherein it’s MORE Common for the Prosecutors Office to ALWAYS “Back the Cop” ……. EVEN when the Cop’s WRONG !!

The courts should mandate pot for tight-asses such as Officer Buzzkill. “Smoke this. It’s the law.”

i live in michigan, where we have legalized medical marijuana…the prosecuting attorney in my county has made it his mission to harass and close down all the dispensaries/transfer stations/caretaker grows–anything that facilitates patients’ ability to procure medical marijuana…

he has said, in public, out loud that he “doesn’t care if it’s legal. I will eradicate it in Calhoun County.”
