Gillibrand Drops An Awesome F-Bomb During Webcast

Posted September 15, 2014 21:00 by Comments (47)

If ever anyone deserved throwing an F-Bomb, it’s Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. She  said on Monday that she had to hold her tongue when a male labor leader made comments about her post-pregnancy weight shortly after she began her career in Congress.

“I’ve just had a baby, I’ve just been appointed [to the Senate], I have a lot to learn, so much on my plate, and this man basically says to me, ‘You’re too fat to be elected statewide,'” she said on HuffPost Live, according to KCCI.

Gillibrand did not name the labor leader.

“At that moment, if I could have just disappeared, I would have,” she said. “If I could have just melted in tears, I would have. But I had to just sit there and talk to him. I switched the subject … I didn’t hear a word he said, but I wasn’t in a place where I could tell him to go f*** himself.”

“A statement about a woman’s looks — positive or negative — can be very undermining to her credibility,” Gillibrand said. “I want women to make their own judgments.”

She has faced criticism recently for not naming the individuals who have made the disparaging comments.

“It’s not about any one insult or any one person, because that’s not why I shared the details. I specifically shared them because I want to talk about these broader challenges,” she said. “This happens to women all the time in every industry every day.”

F*ck the haters. Every woman knows that they are scrutinized by some men. Women are fat-shamed and slut-shamed all the time. I remember walking into my building in New York City, and the super said to me, “Oh my God, don’t gain anymore weight. You’re huge.” I’m 5’8″ tall and weighed 130 pounds at the time. His wife was twice my size. I like hamburgers. Don’t judge me.

We need more women like Kirsten Gillibrand (and Wendy Davis and Liz Warren for that matter) in positions power to kick these old misogynistic bigots into touch with today’s realities. I’m liking this lady.

Gillibrand is spot-on with this and related issues (military rape for instance).

On economics though, she’s a Right Wing Economic Royalist Wall Street Lackey Dem. No Thanks.

So, some good, some not so much.

It would be fun to just respond to these asshats in kind–“Yeah, and you could stand to drop a few pounds, especially in the butt. And what is that on your head? Worst toupee ever! Do you ever look in the mirror? You could braid your nose hair into a mustache…”

Or… if you loose anymore hair, you should darken your eyebrows so it doesn’t look like your neck is blowing a bubble..

Cue BS right wing outrage, forgetting that Dickless Cheney told Patrick Leahy to “f*ck yourself” on the Senate floor.

People are too shallow. We have so many young girls who are anorexic/bulimic or having surgery. Because of negative things said about them. Women have to be perfect. Men can have a beer belly and everything is just fine.

A lot of that is to sell them products.. over the last decade or so men have also become the target of businesses selling products. Sometime near the beginning of the last century when I was in college… I remember reading in my psych 101 class, that Men, after getting married will start fattening up their wives to keep other men from getting too interested in their wives… they also used it to win arguments… no matter how “right” the woman was, the man would pull out the old “What do you know.. your just a fat pig” which often ended the argument. Absolutely shameful… and sad

Another double standard that I hate is that women are “sluts” while men are “studs” for the same behavior.

EDITED: The sad part is … too often people will start changing the things about the person they love, that attracted them in the first place..

What’s so “explosive” about the f-word?

She is being very cagey in holding the names of her tormentors close. She has learned to play Washington politics very well!

It makes no sense to withhold his name. Is that what she’d want other women to do in similar situations?

It was probably Harry Reid who previously called Gillibrand “the hottest member” of the Senate.

”I’m 5’8″ tall and weighed 130 pounds at the time”
Goodness sakes… that sounds pretty darned good to me! (Was that bad to say?) :)
    It’s hard to tell sometimes…

    • Gindy51 September 16th, 2014 at 07:10

You’re actually underweight. A “good” weight in general for women is 100 at 5 feet tall and add 5 pounds for each inch.
