What Is Putin’s Ultimate Goal?

Is recreating the Soviet Union Vladimir Putin’s ultimate goal? Putin adviser Theodore Lukianov dismissed that idea but added this warning: “But the former Soviet states should be recognized by the West as a zone of special interest and exclusive rights for Russia.”

That comment is especially chilling for the three former Soviet states or republics that became NATO members in 2004, the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Also concerned are the former Soviet Bloc countries that have joined NATO, including Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Albania and Croatia.

All will be watching as President Obama joins the other 27 NATO leaders in Wales this week.

So NATO members Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are “a zone of special interest and exclusive rights for Russia.”

It’s pretty clear. His goal IS to recreate the USSR.

I’m reminded of Pinky and the Brain:

Pinky: “Gee Brain, what are we gonna do tonight?” Brain: “The same thing we do every night, try to take over the world!”
