Gillibrand Gives Staffers The Secret
New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand believes in the self-help book that was a craze a few years ago, and so has ordered copies of The Secret to hand out to staffers.
Click here for reuse options!“I ordered six copies and distributed them to my staffers,” she tells People of the title, which has sold more than 19 million copies.
Gillibrand even practices positive thinking by changing her passwords to positively reflect on projects she’s working on.
The mag reports that, when pledging to raise $3 million in the first quarter of her 2010 campaign, her password was “3M1stQ.”

Wallace Wattles’ The Science of Getting Rich is at the heart of all this hokum. My opinion is that it as harmful or as harmless as basing your life on Astrology or any other pseudo-science but if it helps people get through the day more power to it. Gillibrand has had a very successful career and who am I to question what she uses as motivation.

I’ve looked at The Secret. It’s based upon the Law of Attraction, in which you either attract positive or negative energy and get the appropriate results.

Verrrrry interesting approach. Gillibrand doesn’t get a lot of airtime on here (zippo since Nov of last year) and nothing about her recent revelation of inappropriate sexual harassment on the part of some of her fellow elected officials. Since the offenders are not getting named we can assume they have a D after their name otherwise they would be top billing in the news cycle until they resigned. So now the left needs to put some distance between them and Gillibrand in case the offenders identity goes public (must be a high ranker). How do they do that? Slowly and subtly paint her as vapid, non-thinker who relies on questionable self-help books. In addition to that, her keeping the identity of her offender a secret sends an awesome message to all the other victims of sexual harassment. Kirsten, thou hast been thrown under the bus. Remind me again about the ground rules for the “War on Women”.

Why the need for distance? It’s not like Lyin’ Ryan requiring his staffers to read “Atlas Shrugged” and then developing a public policy and social agenda on it’s rhetoric which, due to its extremist and draconian nature, fundamentally and cruelly hurt poor people, young people, seniors and the disabled.

So diverting the attention from the fact that Senator Gillibrand is currently modeling the notion that it is a good idea to hide the identity of male sexual harassment accusers is somehow a moral equivalent?
You all know exactly what is going on here and based on similar situations in the past involving conservatives, you SHOULD be appalled and clamoring for not only the identity of the sexist pig in question but his resignation as well. But as usual, folks are thrown under the bus to accomplish the greater good

Actually, other than my political leanings, there is nothing in my past writings that would give you any notion of where I stand on issues concerning sexual harassment of women. Nice try, but very lazy.

We in NY think very highly of Sen. Gillibrand and have reelected her smashingly. She is an excellent senator and a very nice person. Her appointment by Gov. Paterson to the vacancy in 2009 was one of the best things he did…especially appointing a senator from upstate NY which we hadn’t had for a very long time (I think Sen. Gillibrand is from Columbia County in the Hudson Valley.) There is nothing wrong with getting help from a self-help book—do the snarks here think they never need good advice? Some of such books are helpful especially if you follow the good advice and/or can be inspirational. I can think of several that have been of distinct benefit to me written by psychiatrists and psychologists (and no not Dr. Phil).
