U.S. Senator Wanna-Be Says Obama Not Impeached Only Because He’s Black

Sam Clovis is running in the Republican primary in Iowa to try to replace the retiring Tom Harkin. When Republicans stop playing the race and gender cards, maybe they’ll have a chance to be elected.

“I would say there are people in the House of Representatives right now that would very much like to take the opportunity to start the process,” former radio host Sam Clovis told the Daily Times Herald. “And I think the reason that they’re not is because they’re concerned about the media.”

According to the paper, Clovis did not list causes for impeachment, but mused that the media would be harsher on a party impeaching a black president than a white one — an insurmountable hurdle, he added, given that the GOP’s previous impeachment attempt, on former President Bill Clinton, didn’t exactly work either.

“Now we have a situation where race is thrown into the cards as well,” Clovis said. “Whether we like it or not, race is an issue.”

Yes, an issue because Clovis wants to make it one. Radio hosts should generally think twice before running for office. Bloviation doesn’t look good on senators.
