We Better Pay More Attention To Mental Illness Or Expect More Fort Hoods

Fort Hood Shooter Ivan Lopez was being evaluated for PTSD. Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, senior officer at Fort Hood, said, “We have very strong evidence that he had a medical history that indicates unstable psychiatric or psychological condition.We believe that to be a fundamental, underlying cause.”

Go down the list of recent tragedies and mental illness is almost always a factor: The Newtown shooter, the Aurora, Colorado shooter, the man who shot Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and the first shooter who committed murder at Fort Hood five years ago.

How about a mental health check before someone gets a gun? Mandatory. And if you’re a parent of a mentally ill child allowed anywhere near a gun, and that gun is used in a crime, hold the parents accountable.

It’s only a matter of time until the next time.
