Bolton: We’re In Decline As Iran Ascends

John Bolton, the former George W. Bush Ambassador to the UN, a long-time opponent of that organization, has formed a political action committee in his own name. Bolton is circulating an email raising the specter of a nuclear Iran placing it’s as-yet undeveloped weapons on ships anchored in international waters within striking range of the United States.

And how did we get here? According to Bolton’s letter: “Because Barack Obama has made us weak.” Bolton also declares in question form: “Are you comfortable that Iran’s power is growing and America’s power is declining?” “I’m certainly not” says Bolton’s letter.

Bolton was a driving force behind Project For A New American Century, the group that pushed George W. Bush to use all means necessary to remove Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq. With the removal of Iraq as a military counterweight on Iran’s border, Iran has grown into a regional military superpower. Iraq is presently experiencing widespread civil unrest. The Iraq war, originally estimated to cost no more than $50 billion has thus far cost more than $2 Trillion when benefits to veterans are included.

Bolton is asking for money to help him “reverse American decline.”
