Atheist Times Square Billboard: ‘Who Needs Christ During Christmas? Nobody’

American Atheists, a group that loves to provoke, sponsored a digital billboard in New York’s Times Square that conservatives will use to “prove” there’s a “war on Christmas.”

The 40-by-40-foot sign shows a series of motion graphics that starts with that question. Then a hand crosses out “Christ” and writes “Nobody.”

Then it says, “Celebrate the true meaning of Xmas.”

The ad suggests the true meaning of the holiday includes charity, family, fun, ice-skating, parties, food and the Rockettes.

“This season is a great time of year for a hundred reasons — none of them having to do with religion,” David Silverman, president of American Atheists, said in a press release. “This year, start a new tradition: Don’t go to church. You hate it, it’s boring; you probably only go because you feel guilty or obligated. Instead, spend more time with your family and friends — or volunteer. There are better uses of your time and money.”
