Facts Don’t Lie: More Obamacare Success Stories

It’s working. Read that again.

Not because we say so, but because we’re getting more feedback from around the country… and it’s working.

Let’s look at Kentucky first. The governor reports:

“We’re signing up people at roughly a thousand a day. It’s a great rate and a great success so far,” he said on CNN’s “New Day.” […]

Asked about Republican Sens. Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, Kentucky’s two senators and staunch opponents of Obamacare, the governor said critics of the law “are not paying attention to the facts” and they “weave a web of misinformation.”

His piece of advice?

“Take a deep breath. You know, this system is going to work. The only thing that really isn’t working right now on the federal level is the website,” he told CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “I’ll guarantee you that whether it’s a week from now, a month from now, two months from now, they’ll get it up and they’ll get it working. People will be signing up.”

How about Washington State, clear on the other side of the country (we checked)?

Yes, it’s going even better out there:

Three weeks after its launch, Washington’s online insurance marketplace continues to set a strong pace for enrollment.

To date, more than 35,500 Washington residents have enrolled in coverage through the state’s online insurance marketplace, Healthplanfinder, according to data released Monday by the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. That figure is up about 10,500 from the week before.

Among those who have enrolled so far, about 31,000 have enrolled in Medicaid coverage, while more than 4,500 have enrolled in private health plans.

State officials say they are pleased with the high number of Medicaid enrollments. About two-thirds of those who have enrolled in Medicaid coverage are low-income adults who are newly eligible because of the state’s Medicaid expansion in 2014.

An additional 56,000 Washington residents have completed applications that are only missing the first premium payment, which is not due until December 23. That figure is an increase of nearly 20,000 over the week before.

You bet! But hey — ever been to Oregon? We certainly have. It’s a beautiful place — gorgeous, actually. Strong coffee, hand-made beer, lots of flannel. And now the air isn’t the only thing that’s healthy in Oregon, because:

Though Oregon’s health insurance exchange is not yet up and running, the number of uninsured is already dropping thanks to new fast-track enrollment for the Oregon Health Plan.

The low-income, Medicaid-funded program has already signed up 56,000 new people, cutting the state’s number of uninsured by 10 percent, according to Oregon Health Authority officials.

Though the new exchange called Cover Oregon was originally intended to be used for Oregon Health Plan enrollment, the online marketplace doesn’t work yet. Instead, new Oregon Health Plan members are being enrolled using a fast-track process that was approved by the federal government in August.

Deny it if you must, for personal reasons. But it’s working.
