Wal-Mart Worker Reportedly Fired… for Stopping Assault

Because low prices matter more than people, Wal-Mart has reportedly canned a late-shift worker — this time for coming to the aid of a customer who was under physical assault.

Kristopher Oswald, a 30-year-old Wal-Mart employee in Michigan, subdued an assailant in the store’s parking lot, thereby saving a female customer from untold harm; that much is not in dispute.

What is in dispute, however, is Wal-Mart’s apparent pride in sacking a good samaritan, such pride as demonstrated thus:

A spokeswoman for Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. told The Associated Press on Thursday that while the company understood Oswald’s intentions, his actions violated company policy.

“We had to make a tough decision, one that we don’t take lightly, and he’s no longer with the company,” company spokeswoman Ashley Hardie said.

It’s heartening to know that Wal-Mart carries the moral fiber to make the tough decisions. Remember that, when next you shop.
