The Texas senator would ban the government from regulating portion sizes in restaurants.

The amendment is a longshot in the Democrat-controlled Senate. And even if it passed, it would not be binding on federal agencies.

The Cruz amendment was one of 400 proposed by senators Friday before a final budget vote Saturday. Nearly all the amendments were offered with the intention of scoring political points.
