Hospital Denies Granting Request For White Nurses Only

A black nurse is suing Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI, claiming she was reassigned because of her color.

The suit says Hurley honored a father’s request, last October and into November, that no African American nurses care for his newborn baby in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU.

But Hurley denies the charge and says the did not grant the request.

A hospital spokeswoman acknowledged that the request was made, but that “[t]he father was informed that his request could not be granted[.]
