Dick Cheney imputes the worst possible motives to President Obama.

In an interview aired Tuesday with CBS’s Charlie Rose, former Vice President Dick Cheney described President Obama’s military and foreign policy as designed to damage the United States’ capabilities and reduce its influence in the world.

Cheney said he believes former Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel (R) would be a foil for Obama’s plans for the Defense Department, “which I think is to do serious, serious damage to our military capabilities.”

When Rose said the current administration felt they started at a disadvantage because of U.S. intervention in Iraq, Cheney defended that legacy by attacking Obama’s approach.

“I think the president came to power with a worldview that’s fundamentally different,” the former vice president said. “The sense that he wanted to reduce U.S. influence in the world, he wanted to take us down a peg.”
