Grammy Upset As Janis Ian Wins For ‘Society’s Child: My Autobiography’

Ian beat out Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama in the spoken word category for her autobiography, Society’s Child, the same name as her groundbreaking 1965 hit.

She also took out Ellen DeGeneres for “Seriously… I’m Kidding” and MSNBC host Rachel Maddow for “Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power.”

The openly gay Ian made a joke about her esteemed rivals as she accepted her award.

“I keep thinking there’s a joke in here – an ex-President, the First Lady and three lesbians walk into a bar,” Ian quipped.
