Joe Nocera outlines the day in armed America.

This is what it’s come to. A Missouri prosecutor filed charges against a convicted felon who, after getting drunk and stoned, shot and killed his friend. Authorities say a man in the Sierra Nevada community of Murphys, Calif., shot and killed his teenage son and daughter before killing himself. 54-year-old Phillip Marshall shot his 17-year-old son, Alex, and his 14-year-old daughter, Macaila, once in the head with a handgun.
