Court Orders Twitter To Identify Posters Of Racist, Anti-Semitic Tweets

A French court ordered that those users putting out racist and anti-Semitic Tweets be identified.

The ruling stems from legal action by France’s Union of Jewish Students and other groups over tweets connected with a hashtag, #unbonjuif (#agoodjew), which they argued violated France’s anti-racism laws, France24 reported. The court ruled Thursday that the U.S.-based social networking site must hand over data to help identify the users “within the framework of its French site.”

“This is an excellent ruling that will stop a feeling of impunity among Twitter users that they can post whatever comments they like,” the associations’ lawyer Stephane Lilti told reporters, according to France24.
