Specifically, a ridge of high pressure aloft centered from the Florida Peninsula to the Bahamas and southwest Atlantic Ocean will bow northward, bumping the polar jet stream into eastern Canada, keeping cold air bottled up in the West and Plains states through the weekend.

Daily record highs will fall by the wayside through the weekend in the South and East.

In fact, records for the month of January were tied Wednesday in 4 Florida cities Wednesday:

On Thursday, International Falls, Minn. reached 48 degrees, beating its previous record high for the day by seven degrees.

This warmth will also put another large dent into the nation’s snowcover in these areas, in retreat since Winter Storm Euclid’s Christmas holiday blanket of snow.
