Hillary: Word Of Al Qaeda-Linked Group’s Involvement In Libyan Attack Not Sufficient Evidence

Word to the White House hours after the attack on our Benghazi embassy came via social networks and wasn’t credible enough. And the group, Ansar al-Sharia, concurrently denied carrying out the attacks.

‘Posting something on Facebook is not in and of itself evidence,’ Clinton said. ‘And I think it just underscores how fluid the reporting was at the time and continued for some time to be.’

…White House Press Secretary Jay Carney added: ‘I think within a few hours that organization itself claimed that it had not been responsible. Neither should be taken as fact.’

…Intelligence experts caution that initial reports from the scene of any attack or disaster are often inaccurate.
