Supreme Court Won’t Stay Lower Court Decision To Allow Early Voting In Ohio For All Voters
It’s considered a victory for the Obama administration that the Supreme Court is staying out of the fight over early voting in Ohio.
The court turned down Ohio’s petition without comment. There were no noted dissents to the decision.
A panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit ruled that if Ohio is going to allow in-person voting for members of the military during the Saturday, Sunday and Monday before the election, it must open the process to all voters.
“While there is a compelling reason to provide more opportunities for military voters to cast their ballots, there is no corresponding satisfactory reason to prevent nonmilitary voters from casting their ballots as well,” the appeals court said.
