Former Vikings and current Ravens center Matt Birk voiced his strong support for Minnesota’s “Marriage Protection Amendment” with a video submitted to the op-ed section of the Minneapolis StarTribune.  Birk says, “Marriage redefinition will affect the broader well-being of children and the welfare of society.” Birk, a father of six, insists this issue is really about the children:

“Same sex unions may not affect my marriage specifically, but it will affect my children — the next generation. Ideas have consequences, and laws shape culture. Marriage redefinition will affect the broader well-being of children and the welfare of society. “

Birk goes on to claim that, “People who are simply acknowledging the basic reality of marriage between one man and one woman are being labeled as ‘bigots’ and “homophobic,'” while arguing, “Aren’t we past that as a society?”

Chris Kluwe of the Vikings struck back at Birk.

Fortunately, the ever-entertaining Chris Kluwe, who knows how to craft a response, offered his own rebuttal to Birk on Monday. In his now-familiar, colorful manner, Kluwe reminds Birk, “You can’t just say same-sex marriage is bad for kids because I think it’s bad for kids, and I think it’s bad for kids because it’s bad for kids.’ That’s called circular reasoning and it’s a logical fallacy.”

Kluwe points out six logical arguments against Birk’s hard stance, adding that, “The only impact same-sex marriage will have on your children is if one of them turns out to be gay and cannot get married.” Kluwe respectfully disagrees with what he calls Birk’s “discrimination” against one section of society.
