“A Safe Place For People To Hate”

That’s what a former Chick-fil-A employee says.

Steve Cammett quit out of respect for late sister who was gay. Says he couldn’t work for company where customers felt homophobia was tolerated.

Chick-fil-A says its policy is “to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect,” but a former employee claims it’s “a safe place for people to hate and expect to be patted on the back for it.”

Steve Cammett worked his way from Chick-fil-A restaurants to the corporate office in Atlanta over nine years, and loved it. “I was a Chick-fil-A enthusiast,” he told WGCL-TV.

His enthusiasm waned this summer when company president Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press that Chick-fil-A supports “the biblical definition of the family unit.” That support was bolstered by millions of dollars in donations to anti-gay groups over the years.

Cathy also took a shot at divorcees, saying company execs “are married to our first wives.”

Cammett, 60, is twice divorced, and his late sister was gay. “I felt hurt by those statements,” he said.
