Gun Group Objects To Library Gun Rule, Enters With Guns, Compares It To Racial Discrimination

Thirty gun-toting activists didn’t like a Virginia library’s gun policy, so they protested both inside and outside the building by bringing their guns. The objected to one sentence in the rule: “Carrying concealed weapons is prohibited, except as permitted by law.” Organizer Philip Van Cleave likens it to racial discrimination.

“What if they had said ‘We don’t allow African-Americans, except if allowed by law. Would that be okay? I don’t think so,” Van Cleave said outside the library. “[The rule] implies that no one is allowed to protect themselves on the property.”
