FRC Head: Gunman Given “License To Shoot” By Liberal Group

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins says Floyd Corkins II was given a license to shoot by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

“Let me be clear that Floyd Corkins was responsible for firing the shots yesterday that wounded one of our colleagues … but Corkins was given a license to shoot an unarmed man by organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center that have been reckless in labeling organizations ‘hate groups’ because they disagree with them on public policy.”

Sure, the SPLC brands the FRC a hate group. But to suggest that someone has blood on his or her hands because of a crazed gunman’s actions simply because they express a political opinion, doesn’t cut it. In fact, when someone who hates liberals like the man who killed two adults and wounded seven at a Tennessee church in 2008, it wasn’t fair to blame conservatives, either, as Steve Benen writes.  So, let’s stop the phony political posturing when tragedy strikes.
