Politico: Romney Takes “Barely Veiled Swipe” At Obama’s Israel Relationship, Cites “Diplomatic Distance”

Speaking to conservative Israelis and donors, Mitt Romney didn’t hide his contempt for President Obama’s foreign policies in spite of his pledge not to be critical on his trip. Among his comments: “It is sometimes said that those who are the most committed to stopping the Iranian regime from securing nuclear weapons are reckless and provocative and inviting war.”

He also suggested the White House maintains “diplomatic distance,” which he would correct, when he said, “We cannot stand silent as those who seek to undermine Israel, voice their criticisms. And we certainly should not join in that criticism. Diplomatic distance in public between our nations emboldens Israel’s adversaries.”
