Charles and Te’Andrea Wilson were to be married at the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, but were told by the pastor
the church would not marry them one day before the wedding. Charles Wilson says, “The church congregation had decided no black could be married at that church, and that if he went on to marry her, then they would vote him out the church.” Te’Andrea adds, “He had people in the sanctuary that were pitching a fit about us being a black couple.” The pastor, Stan Weatherford, performed the ceremony at a nearby church.
