RIP Hal Jackson, 1914-2012

Legendary broadcast personality Hal Jackson broke many barriers during his long career.

In 1939 HAL JACKSON broke the color line at WINX in WASHINGTON by hosting “The Bronze Review,” a nightly interview show. Eventually, he began hosting “The House That Jack Built,” featuring blues and jazz on WOOK in WASHINGTON. He moved to NEW YORK in 1954 and became the first air personality to broadcast three daily shows on three different NEW YORK stations. He was the first minority inducted into the National Association Of Broadcaster’s Hall Of Fame. He was the founder of The HAL JACKSON Talented Teens Miss International competition.

In 1971 JACKSON became part of a group that included former MANHATTAN borough president PERCY SUTTON that founded INNER CITY BROADCASTING and acquired WLIB AM/FM. Shortly after that he began hosting a weekly SUNDAY Classics show.
