GOP: Keep Student Loan Interest Rates Low By Cutting Health Prevention

Republicans are willing to extend low-cost student loans, but only if they an cut health care prevention.

[House Speaker John] Boehner’s proposal would finance the $5.9 billion cost of maintaining the 3.4 percent interest rate for one year by cutting the Affordable Care Act’s Prevention & Public Health Fund, financing that’s designed to help states and communities fight chronic conditions like heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes, and ultimately reduce health care costs. During a press conference yesterday, Boehner characterized the Fund as an affront to small businesses:
