New York’s Mayor Bloomberg: We Need A Higher Minimum Wage

Mike Bloomberg wants to minimum wage to go from $7.25 to $8.25, matching the rate in Connecticut.

“Right now, I believe, we are slightly out of balance,” Bloomberg was to say, according to prepared remarks of his speech. “The free market – as genius as it is – is not perfect.”

It remains to be seen what impact Bloomberg’s proposal would have on the city’s simmering living wage debate.

A group of elected officials and labor groups are trying to pass legislation that would pay workers in city-subsidized buildings at least $10 an hour – a plan Bloomberg opposes.
