Santorum Flashback

When the fourth of Rick Santorum’s children was born prematurely at 20 weeks and lived for just two hours outside the womb, he brought the dead child home for his other kids to play with.

Upon their son’s death, Rick and Karen Santorum opted not to bring his body to a funeral home. Instead, they bundled him in a blanket and drove him to Karen’s parents’ home in Pittsburgh. There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass.

The Santorums changed the hospital form from “20-week-old fetus so it would read “20-week-old baby.”  Here, courtesy of Think Progress, are some of his other expressed views.

On Gays:

“If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything.”

“I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too?”

On President Obama having a date night with the First Lady in New York:

“I think he has to realize that flying to New York is…self-indulgent. Go down to the corner bar and have a drink, a shot and a beer”

On women in the workplace:

“In far too many families with young children, both parents are working, when, if they really took an honest look at the budget, they might find they don’t both need to….The radical feminists succeeded in undermining the traditional family and convincing women that professional accomplishments are the key to happiness.”

On bin Laden:

“Now we have the Attorney General confirming to Osama bin Laden just bide your time and the effeminate and pampered Americans will cower away.”

Of course that last one was before the administration killed him.
