House Rejects Payroll Tax Cut Extension

The House voted against extending the payroll tax cut for two months.

House leaders demand a one-year extension. The chamber voted along party lines, 229-193, in rejecting the Senate deal and calling for negotiators to be appointed to broker a final agreement.

Failure to extend the payroll tax cut would cost the average household roughly $1,000 a year.
