This 1992 note appears to be a 25-year plan (the header reads “1993-2018”). Items on the list include: “A series of books (the history of Freedom, prosperity and safety),” “Possibly a series of courses with audio and videotape followers,” and “Campus (intellectual) appearances on ‘the histories,’ ” with “Gingrich the historian applying the lessons of history to public life.”

Slate has a fascinating look inside the mind of Newt Gingrich via doodles that appeared in the House Ethics Committee report. He is central to his own world view:

“I want to shift the entire planet,” he told the Washington Post as a Republican backbencher in 1985. “And I’m doing it.” Or, in another example from 1994: “I think I am a transformational figure. I think I am trying to effect a change so large that the people who would be hurt by the change, the liberal machine, have a natural reaction … I think because I’m so systematically purposeful about changing our world.” Another comment from that same year: “People like me are what stand between us and Auschwitz.”
