Assistant coach Mike McQueary, who testified he saw Jerry Sandusky sodomize a boy, has been placed on paid leave.

Coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier were ousted by the school’s board of trustees Wednesday. Athletic director Tim Curley is on paid leave, and vice president of business and finance Gary Schultz stepped down from his post over the weekend.

McQueary was already banned from Saturday’s football game “due to multiple threats” made against him.

Some have called for McQueary to be fired, but the assistant coach could be protected as a whistleblower. Gerald J. Williams, a partner at a Philadelphia law firm, said Pennsylvania law is broad in protecting a person who reports wrongdoing, as long as that person is part of a governmental or quasi-governmental institution, such as Penn State.
