Rick Perry fought on behalf of confederate symbols as Texas governor, but now opposes a confederate flag on Texas license plates.

…now in the national limelight, Perry is not so gung-ho. The Texas Sons of Confederate Veterans want to put a confederate flag on Texas license plates to “remember Texans who died fighting in the Civil War.” But Perry dismissed the plan yesterday, “We don’t need to be scraping old wounds.” His spokeswoman clarified, “While the governor believes this is a decision for the DMV board, he personally does not support the Confederate plate.” The Sons of Confederate Veterans response was swift: “Rather than worry about opening old wounds, they ought to heal them…They need to honor the soldiers.”
