Supreme Court Refuses To Stay Florida Execution
Breyer said he would have granted the stay, saying his “commonsense conclusion” is that “33 years in prison under threat of execution is cruel.”
“It is difficult to imagine how an execution following so long a period of incarceration could add significantly to that punishment’s deterrent value,” Breyer said. No other comments were made public by the high court Wednesday evening.
