Terry Lakin refused to be deployed to Afghanistan because he believes President Obama was not born here, and is thus not qualified to be commander in chief. Now, Lakin is fighting to retain benefits he lost because he fell short of serving 20 years.

Lakin was convicted by court-martial in December of missing movement and served five months of a six-month sentence at the Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., before being released in May…

He remains on active duty but without pay until any appeal is resolved. Lakin had been earning about $90,000 annually as an Army doctor and would have been eligible for a retirement package worth half that amount had he retired after 20 years of service.
