Florida Welfare Recipients To Be Drug Tested
They’ll get reimbursed if they’re clean. The ACLU says it treats people who lost jobs like criminals.
[Governor Rick] Scott (pictured) said he is instituting the law to save the state money. However, it will only save money if enough people test positive for drugs and lose their benefits to offset the increased cost of reimbursing people who pass the test.
More than 4,000 people apply for benefits monthly, with the law going into effect July 1. If everyone’s test were negative, state taxpayers would spend anywhere from $44,000 to $110,000 per month in reimbursement.
