White House Fires Back At Franklin Graham For Questioning Obama’s Legitimacy

Let’s face it, questions about the president’s birth certificate are an attempt to delegitimize him. Any doubts about whether he was legally qualified to be POTUS were addressed during the last presidential race.  If one of his opponents could have found a way to eliminate him from competition, he or she would have done so. Franklin Graham’s legitimatizing the Trump birther meme is sad.  It’s also factually incorrect.

“He can solve this whole birth certificate issue pretty quickly,” the son of Rev. Billy Graham said. “I was born in a hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, and I know that my records are there. You can probably even go and find out what room my mother was in when I was born. I don’t know why he can’t produce that.”

What Obama has produced is his certificate of birth from the very American state of Hawaii. It says he was born in Honolulu on Aug. 4, 1961, at 7:24 p.m. Various state officials of both parties have attested to its legitimacy and accuracy.

Still, that’s not good enough for so-called “birthers” who have continued to question whether Obama was born in Indonesia, Kenya or elsewhere. The younger Graham, apparently, is among that group.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney today struck back when asked about Graham.

“I think it’s unfortunate that a religious leader would choose Easter Sunday to make preposterous charges,” Carney said. “And I’ll leave it at that.”
