D.C. Mayor Arrested Protesting Budget Deal

District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray was among 41 citizens arrested for unlawful assembly outside the Hart Office Building, demonstrating for the right to spend their own money.

Gray and other city council members joined protesters asking for freedom to spend District money. The budget deal Congress passed over the weekend bans the District from spending its money to provide abortions for low-income women.

According to the mayor’s communication director, Gray’s daughter, attorney Jonice Gray Tucker, paid his $50 “collateral” so that he could be released.

The rider in the budget agreement banning the District from spending its own money was a sop to the anti-abortion crowd at the expense of self-determination.
