Maine Governor’s Decision To Have Labor Mural Removed Will Cost His State

Maine Governor Paul LePage, who had a mural honoring labor removed from the lobby of the State Department of Labor, will cost his state tens of thousands of dollars. LePage wanted to “send a message” to labor.

Apparently unknown to Maine’s recently elected Republican governor, the mural targeted by his ire was initially paid for by a federal grant — the terms of which he violated by having it removed.

And now… the U.S. Department of Labor has officially demanded reimbursement.

The U. S. Department of Labor sent a letter to Maine’s acting labor commissioner asking for the money back. The big, tough anti-labor governor has a choice: either fork up $60,000, or put the  mural back where it belongs.
