Montana Republican Legislator Defends Drunk Driving

It’s not every politician who will super-serve the drunk driver, but that void is now filled by Montana Rep. Alan Hale. HB 14 by Democratic House member Mike Menahan would allow the courts to look back ten years for prior infractions for anyone arrested for DUI.  The current law allows a five year look. Hale dislikes not only that, but all anti-drunk driving laws.

Hale, who according to his campaign website owns the Saddle Bar and Café in Basin, gave a passionate speech in opposition to not only HB14, but to all of the bills aimed at stiffening DUI laws. According to Hale, the DUI bills are “destroying” small businesses by preventing people from drinking and driving.
