Michele Bachmann Not Crazy Enough For You? Try Louie Gohmert

The competition for furthest out there in the Republican House caucus is heating up.  Today’s entrant: Texas Representative Louie Gohmert, who used a House floor speech to suggest that our national debt is eerily like what was going on in Hitler’s Germany.

What opened the door for this barbarian to take over such a proud country and lead them into this unthinkable, horrible crime against humanity? Over six million Jewish people were killed, exterminated. Economic problems, spending too much, owing too much, trying to print money to make it up didn’t work, so they got desperate.

Now that’s a Holocaust analogy!  But as Huffington Post describes, Gohmert is well-versed in exaggeration:

According to Gohmert, the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” was going to threaten America’s very existence, while the passage of a 2009 hate crimes bill was supposed to lead to the legalization of necrophilia, pedophilia, bestiality and perhaps even Naziism.

I’d love to make some profound point about trivializing the Holocaust but I’m not sure Gohmert really deserves profound.  Profane maybe, but not profound.
