House Threatened To Discipline Rep. Earl Bleumenauer For Telling The Truth

Congressman Earl Blumenauer of Oregon raised the ire of Republicans when he took to the House floor to assert that the GOP claim that health care reform is a government takeover is a lie. Republican Dan Lundren of California asked that the words be “taken down” because of a breach of decorum.

Blumenauer ultimately withdrew the words, though his office did immediately send a press release pointing out that the Politifact website used the same language to describe the GOP claim.

His office says Blumenaur withdrew the words as a courtesy to Lungren, and not because he doesn’t believe in what he said, or feared discipline.

Bluemenauer could have been prevented from speaking for the rest of the day for the sin of telling the truth.
