Senators Lieberman And McCain Open To Military Option In Libya

Senators Joe Lieberman and John McCain, critical of President Obama’s handling of the Libyan crisis, say they would like the United States to create a no-fly zone. Of course, the president has  been clear that the reason for his caution has been to protect American lives while they were possibly in  harms way. No matter.  Here’s an opportunity to gain political points.

Asked if there was a military option for Libya McCain said, “I think there possibly could be.” The security and safety of the American people “is our highest priority, it’s not our only priority,” he said…

Lieberman joined McCain in his critique, saying the White House response was too slow and not clear enough, though he acknowledged that the administration had been cautious in its response due to safety concerns for Americans still in Libya. “Now is the time for action, not just statements,” Lieberman said.

The senators also called for the United States to arm a provisional government in Libya.
